Ice Days

Okay, so I am not unaccustomed to snow and ice and freezing temps. I have snow gear and years of sledding experience. Having problems walking up an icy hill? Punch through the ice with your heels first to gain a little more traction. My hair froze between my dorm and the caf this morning, but it didn't even faze me. I'm not from waaaaay north, but when you go to school in the south, you just feel so much more experienced :)

Classes were canceled the last two days, and all classes before 10:00 were canceled today. Stuck in the little bubble of campus, my knowledge of the outside roads is limited to what weather channels tweet. But from what I hear, there must be a limited amount of salt trucks and snow plows. Sidewalks, parking lots, and roads here on campus are still extremely dangerous. We got a lot of sleet/freezing rain back on Monday that melts a little during the day and then refreezes smoothly at night. The campus scattered some salt before the initial icing, but I'm not sure if they're putting down any more salt.

Since I was homeschooled, I never really got a snow day. Granted, we got to take off more frequently than public schoolers (and we also worked more frequently late at night or on the weekends). But that just isn't the same as a snow day. So far, my days have been spent sledding on a metal trashcan lid, watching TV shows courtesy of Netflix, drinking coffee, and staying caught up on reading. It has been rather amazing these past two days. Nothing forms relationships quite as well as sledding down concrete runoffs and landing in a puddle of slush.
