In lecture on Tuesday, my instructor told us to be sure to take full advantage of our break to rest and relax. We reminded her that we had two papers and a care plan due the following Monday. She laughed and then told us to just do those things and not to work ahead. I've actually followed her instructions pretty well when it comes to the not-working-ahead part, but part of that is because I've been so busy I didn't have a choice.
I had work on Wednesday, but it wasn't too bad, just really slow and somewhat boring. On Thursday, we had a family get-together. I made some potato-cheese-ranch-bacon bites as my contribution to the feast. They turned out decently, but can anything ever compare to Grandma's noodles and rolls? Not to mention her cherry pie this year. Perfection.
Thursday evening, we went to our usual Walmart for the sales. We stocked up on fleece clothing and cheap DVDs. I love the Black Friday atmosphere. Everyone is in a hurry, but not everyone is cruel. Not where we go, at least. The majority seem pretty laid-back and friendly. I braved the movie section this year, which was dangerous mainly because of how close it was to the video games.
After Walmart, my mom and sister and I split off from our friends and ventured to Kohls, stopping by Steak And Shake to refuel. Kohls had already been open for about three hours when we got there, but the line to checkout was still nearly an hour long. But hey, I scored some flannel snowman sheets and Mom found a new travel mug, so it was fun.
After Kohls, we swung past our favorite coffeeshop to get enough caffeine to stay alert for the ride home. When we got home, my siblings and I tried to watch The Lego Movie, one of our Walmart finds. I think our brother made it, but my sister and I crashed in the first half.
Friday morning, we slept in a bit before going to Menards. We didn't really have a list of things to buy, just some people that we needed to get presents for. Menards has such a hodgepodge of things that it's just fun to browse. Then we went to find donuts and coffee for breakfast, finishing off our shopping nicely.
Friday afternoon was spent cleaning. I sneezed a lot. And then I was yawning a lot. By the time I went to bed, I was pretty much already asleep.
Saturday has been pretty low-key. I finally finished some of my assignments and we sorted through our Black Friday loot. I'm rested, my laundry is nearly done, and I finally got around to hanging up all of my jackets and sweatshirts. We've lugged the Christmas tress upstairs, so it'll be up before classes start again Monday. And I think I'm going to go make a milkshake tonight.
I am happy.
