Oversleeping and Oatmeal

This morning, my alarm and I had some serious issues. I think some counseling might be needed now by one or both involved parties ;)

I have class at 9:00 on Fridays, so I try to get up around 7:00. That allows me with enough time to go for a run and have a nice, relaxed breakfast. So this morning, I wake up of my own accord and try to figure out the time by how much light is seeping through the curtains. I deduced that it was daylight, and therefore probably close enough to 7:00 to warrent getting up before my alarm. I find my iPod (my alarm clock) under my pillow and check the time.

It was 7:40.

Adrenaline rushed through my system as I reached for my phone to double check. It agreed with my traitorous iPod.

I swung down quickly from my bed, grabbed my things, and showered in record time. I was ready to go to breakfast in, like, fifteen minutes.

(Don't worry, Mom. I brushed my teeth and everything.)

I got to breakfast and breathed; I had plenty of time to take my time eating my oatmeal. It's weird: I rush just so I can be slow. But that's just what I like to do. So I served myself a healthy amount of oatmeal, sprinkled some raisins and brown sugar on it, and got myself some coffee. I settled in at a table and eagerly took a bite.

It was salty.

I know, some people like their oatmeal with salt. My grandpa does, evidently. I do not. I like mine with raisins or chocolate chips or sugar. Not salt.

I disguised my gagging by gullping down a good bit of my coffee and tried another bite. It was nasty. So I picked off the raisins and ate them. Then I got some yogurt with granola and some coffee-cake (and some more coffee, since I had so much trying to get the saltiness of the oatmeal off of my tongue) and praised God that my school's cafeteria has a good variety of options.

Lesson learned: always double-check your alarm and your oatmeal before your expectations for them get too high :)
